This super simple recipe is so delicious and uses a secret ingredient that makes it better than your average chocolate chip cookie. The ingredient? Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding! It improves the flavor, texture, and makes it a moister, softer, and chewier cookie. This chocolate chip cookie is so delicious you could easily eat a whole plateful or two!

What’s in the name? Champions run in the family! Bold Ruler (the sire of Secretariat) won the Preakness Stakes. Secretariat (the sire of Risen Star) won the Triple Crown. And Risen Star won the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes.

Here’s what you will need to bake these pudding chocolate chip cookies:

2 1/4 all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup of butter, softened

1/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar

1 package (4-serving size) Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 eggs

1 package (12 oz.) Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Mix flour with baking soda. Combine butter, the sugars, pudding mix, and vanilla in a large mixing bowl; beat until smooth and creamy. Beat in eggs. Gradually add flour mixture then stir in chips. (Batter will be stiff.) Drop from tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets, about 2 inches apart. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Makes about three dozen.

How to get perfectly baked chocolate chip cookies?

  1. Do not overbake!
  2. Do the minimum baking time first.
  3. Make sure the middle of the cookie is slightly gooey.
  4. Make sure the cookies are round.

Just like the pudding in this recipe makes these pudding chocolate chip cookies stand out among the rest, Bold Ruler, Secretariat and Risen Star all shared a special trait that made them better than the rest.

Secretariat 1973 Triple Crown winner

Risen Star 1988 Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes winner
