Chewy, gooey, and perfect with a cold glass of milk. Sir Barton’s Brownies are lengths ahead of all the other recipes!

What’s in the name? Sir Barton was the first U.S. Triple Crown winner in 1919. One of Sir Barton’s most famous races was when he challenged the greatest racehorse ever, Man O War.
Here is what you need to make these amazing brownies:

- 1 cup of butter
- 2 cups white sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease an 8×8 or a 9×13 pan
- Melt butter in a small saucepan over low heat
- Remove the butter from the heat and in a bowl combine butter with sugar, eggs and vanilla then, mix until combined
- Stir in the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder and salt until the batter is smooth
- If you want, you can add the walnuts and fold them in.
- Spread evenly into the prepared pan
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean,
- Allow brownies to cool before serving

- The chestnut colt won the Triple Crown before it was recognized as an important trio of races.
- Sir Barton is ranked number 49 in the Blood-Horse’s top 100 racehorses of the 20th century.
- In the 1920 Saratoga Handicap, he beat Exterminator, the 1918 Kentucky Derby winner.
- Sir Barton’s jockey was Johnny Loftus, who also rode Man o War (1920 Horse of the Year) and Regret, (the first filly to win the Kentucky Derby)
- He was known to be a grouchy horse and the only person he truly liked was his groom.
- The first race Sir Barton ever won was the Kentucky Derby.
- Sir Barton inherited weak hooves from his sire, which would give him trouble when he raced, but he overcame his bad feet and became a champion.
- In the Merchants and Citizens Handicap, he set a world record on dirt for the 1 3/16 miles.
- Sir Barton’s most famous race was his match race against Man o War, which he lost by 7 lengths, because of his hooves.

Sir Barton’s Brownies
Thick, ooey-gooey and delicious brownies, that are perfect with a glass of cold milk.
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups white sugar

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ⅔ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup chopped walnuts (optional)

- Melt butter over low heat.

Notes
An 8×8 pan makes the brownies super ooey-gooey and thick, but takes longer to bake.
Use a 9×13 pan for firmer, thinner brownies.
If you don’t have walnuts, pecans work just as well.
